RefWorks: Scopus integration provides a sophisticated level of interoperability between Scopus and RefWorks; enabling researchers an uninterrupted workflow when finding and managing research information. It is a time-saving breakthrough for researchers!

Exporting interesting references from databases, and subsequently managing them, is one of the most common and time consuming tasks for a researcher. RefWorks: Scopus integration provides a fast, easy and accurate way to manage references. The integration of RefWorks: Scopus Edition means that reference data can be managed live and in real-time, working seamlessly between the two systems.

How does it work?

In Scopus:

RefWorks:Scopus integration requires users to register once using their personal RefWorks username and password. This will then enable them to export directly to RefWorks without ever having to fill in their username and password again. The RefWorks username and password can be found in the email received at the time of registration for RefWorks. Instructions for registering with RefWorks: Scopus Edition can be found below:

A: Under “My Profile” users can register by clicking on RefWork settings (note: this requires that users are logged in to Scopus).

If tickbox does not appear, please contact the Scopus E-helpdesk for assistance.

B: The RefWorks User Name and Password should be entered here. The RefWorks Group Code field is in most cases filled in. If the Group Code is blank, please contact the library. Note that users are only asked to submit their login details once.

C: After running a search and having selected the documents from the results list, simply click on the “Output” button.

D: An icon will appear next to the Scopus records that have already been exported to RefWorks in an earlier session.

E: On the output page select Export. Users can choose from following Output preferences:

  • Citations Only
  • Abstract format
  • Abstract format with References
  • Complete format
  • Specify fields to be Exported

Click on the “Export” button.

In RefWorks:

F: The RefWorks screen automatically opens up and the references are instantly uploaded to RefWorks. Click on “View Last Imported Folder” to access the latest exported references in detail from Scopus, alternatively click on “All References” in the menu for a complete overview.

Users can link to:

G: Cited X Times: View this article’s cited by’s and “newly” cited items in Scopus since previous session.

H: View in Scopus: View this particular document in Scopus.

I: Related Documents: See all documents that share references with this particular article in Scopus.

J: From here users can conduct a search in Scopus on authors, by choosing an author from the drop down list and click go.

RefWorks allows users to import references from a variety of databases, not only Scopus. Users can organize and create a personal database online with an unlimited number of records. For more information about RefWorks, please visit www.refworks.com.

If you have questions, please contact your local e-Helpdesk.
