Federated / Meta-searching
Federated searching, also known as meta-searching, cross- or broadcast searching, is the concept of using a single search portal to search through and retrieve results from multiple online resources at once. ScienceDirect customers are increasingly deploying such portals in their organizations, and have repeatedly indicated that ScienceDirect is a valuable online resource for inclusion in these portals.
In response to these demands, ScienceDirect has developed an XML gateway together with Scopus, allowing both ScienceDirect and Scopus content to be targeted from federated search portals that are used by customers with a full license to ScienceDirect or Scopus.
