There are many purchase options available for the ScienceDirect books collection, which includes eBooks, Book Series, Handbooks and Major Reference Works.

eBooks

eBooks are available in collections and on a pick an choose basis.

The eBooks consist of 18 subject areas. The collections are available to purchase per year of publication. For example, you may choose to purchase the 2008 or 2009 eBooks chemistry collection. All the eBooks starting before 2007 are assembles into one collection, which is the eBook pre- 2007 collection. Users will have access to all titles purchased for as long as the library continues to subscribe to ScienceDirect. eBooks are available on a one-time payment option and get perpetual access to all titles within the defined collections.

MARC records are provided for free.

Book Series

Book Series are available in collections and on a pick and choose basis on a series level.

We have created nine packages of Book Series titles in the following subject areas:

Agriculture and Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Immunology and Microbiology, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Neuroscience, Pharmacology, toxicology and Pharmaceutical Science and Physics and Astronomy.

Book series are available on a subscription basis. Just as you do with journals, you can pay an annual subscription fee for the book series you wish to access.

Reference Works

Reference works are available on a pick and choose basis.

Reference works are available on a subscription and one-time payment basis.

Handbook Series

Handbook Series are available on a pick and choose basis on a series or package level.

Handbook Series are available in the following subject areas: Comprehensive Analytical Chemistry, Magnetic Materials (package), Numerical Analysis, Statistics, Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths, Economics Series (package), Operations Research and Management Science (closed series).

Handbook series are available on a subscription basis. Similar to journals and book series, you can pay an annual subscription fee for the handbook series you wish to access.

General information

You don't need a ScienceDirect agreement to buy Books on ScienceDirect...

Books on ScienceDirect may be purchased regardless of whether or not you already have an institutional ScienceDirect agreement. Existing ScienceDirect customers will receive a simple amendment to existing contract agreements. Customers who only sign up for eBooks need to pay an annual access fee as specified in the contract.

Online-only access to books is purchased separately from the print version. The fee is charged according to the number of full-time equivalents (FTEs) within your institution.

FTEs are defined as full-time and part-time students, faculty, and distance learners within an institution. Please note that colleges that do not offer graduate programs may apply for special pricing arrangements.
