Printer-friendly version

On February 26, 2011 Elsevier launched several highly anticipated enhancements to its SciVerse platform with the aim to improve ease of use.

For SciVerse ScienceDirect users this means they can benefit from further improved accessibility and distribution of SciVerse ScienceDirect content by offering a new way to efficiently set-up remote access.

Self-managed remote access

The introduction of self-managed remote access enables users to more easily access the same content on SciVerse ScienceDirect from e.g. home as when they are at their subscribing institution.

Users gain increased access to their subscribed content while librarians and administrators are freed of any additional administrative burden associated with the distribution and accounting for countless remote login IDs.

For using SciVerse ScienceDirect and SciVerse Scopus mobile applications (e.g. iPhone) remote access will be required.

How does it work?

Self-managed remote access is a new tool that is based on validating the user’s email address against a predefined list of domain names.

If you are a librarian and wish to activate self remote access for your patrons, please contact the Elsevier helpdesk . They will set up your institution’s domain name in order for remote access validation to become active.

As a researcher seeking remote access, watch this short video to see the simple steps you’ll need to take to have SciVerse ScienceDirect content available anytime, anywhere.

Self-managed remote access is also available on SciVerse Scopus. For using SciVerse ScienceDirect and SciVerse Scopus mobile applications (e.g. iPhone) remote access will be required.

Notification for Internet Explorer 6 users:
From summer 2011 SciVerse ScienceDirect will no longer support the Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) version that was launched in 2001. SciVerse ScienceDirect is striving to constantly utilize the latest web technologies, including interactive and other multimedia applications. To ensure you get the most of your experience on SciVerse ScienceDirect, we encourage you to contact your institutional IT department to update your browser before summer 2011.
